Propagating a Rose Cutting with Honey

Rose is my number one ally with my Springfield Sanctuary Apprenticeship this year. Sarah asked us to start plants from seeds, etc. and since you can start a new rose bush from a cutting from an established one, I started exploring this. I found many sources suggesting using a rooting compound, and I will try that on another cutting, but today, I decided to try to root a cutting by dipping it in honey and then water. This is the video that inspired me to try this environmentally friendly way to root a rose cutting:)
starting a rose bush from a cutting
I have admired one of my daughter’s neighbor’s roses, and decided to use a cutting from it, with permission.
I do not know this roses name, but it has lovely pink roses that repeat bloom from spring to very late in the fall and has lots of lovely rose hips every year. I will let you know how this method works in a few weeks! I will try another cutting using rooting compound and see if I can discern a difference on the success or (perish the thought!), the failure!

You can grow some roses from seed as well Lesley, I've never seen the Hybrid 'T' roses for sale as seeds and if you saved seed from the hips they wouldn't come 'true to type' but you can get wild or dog rose seeds 'Rosa canina' to grow, if you can't get any let me know and I'll post some to you :)

I've never heard of using honey to root cuttings before, it will be interesting to see whether or not it works.

how interesting. I wonder if this would work on cut roses? sometimes my store bought rose bunches have roses that grow leaves and I think maybe they may grow roots too? tell me what you think, thanking you in advance blessings, Lady

Oh that's so intriguing! Will you be using a rooting compound based on willow? Looking forward to reading more!

Interesting! That's a new one on me. I know you can make a rooting by soaking Willow.

Thanks for visiting ladies. I was intrigued also, and will let you know how it goes with this experiment! I want to also do rose cuttings in regular store bought hormone solution and also with willow solution and we will compare:) xx
Thanks Debs, that would be lovely to get those seeds!! xxx
