Snowy Day Crafting with Lily

When Lily and I have days to fill where it is not nice enough to be outside, we usually craft, bake, cook or something. Yesterday it was still cold and a little snowy, so she got out one of my books, Science Crafts for Kids, by Gwen Diehn and Terry Krautwurst, for inspiration.

First Lily made a Wave in a Bottle

GEDC8810

A bottle filled 1/2 way with water, add vegetable oil to fill it to 3/4’s and a few drops of blue food color and you have the means to simulate a calm sunny day’s ocean or a storm at sea! The book recommended adding either mineral spirits, turpentine or paint thinner for added interest of having the oil and turpentine mixture separate from the colored water. It was so cold out, we decided our bottle would look and act just fine without searching through PaPa’s garage for the turpentine/ paint thinner. Lily added some seashells and then experimented with adding other food colors to watch the color changes.

The second project was making:

We are going to just slip a small stone under the doorway so Mr. and Mrs. Toad have access to their new posh home.

Then we watched the children’s movie, Hotel Transylvania! It was so cute :)

BTW, that is Wisteria looking on from the love seat. Our “full figured” girl who we suspect is part Maine Coon cat due to her size. And yes, I keep my furniture draped in sheets and towels that get shook daily to keep little claws from tearing up the furniture and hair from burying into the fabric :) Sigh, what we don’t do for our furbabies xxx

What a wonderful day you all had! Thankfully, Wisteria was content to be an armchair participant!
Leslie, I cannot understand how you find it in you to write two blogs... I do a poor job at ONE!
Hopefully, it won't take so long for my fingers to walk your way and keep up on things! Happy February! xox
