Fabulous Free (or almost free) Finds

my whole family laughts at me frequently about my frugality! but i thought i would share with you all some of my recent finds that were either free, or only a couple of bucks! we have a yearly event here in our town called gabby days. on this weekend everyone can clear out their basement, garages, attics etc. and set out to the curb all unwanted articles and then everyone else in town roots through these things and takes what they think they want! great fun actually! then the following monday, the trash trucks start coming through to get the remains. you just never know what you might find, but this year was a good year for me and yard ornamentions! i found this lovely trellis that just needed a coat of paint and now is going to be perfect for my new autumn clematis to climb!
the yellow ceramic basket, on the bricks, was a find sitting on top of the garbage cans at the recycling center! perfect amongst all the yellow and purple flowers in this part of the gardens!the adorable little concrete skunk was also found on gabby days!
the cool old double seater metal chairs were found at an auction for 2 bucks! all they need is a little sanding, new paint, and they will be awesome! the nice swing was found for free on gabby days also!
how about all of you? do any of you love to find things and fix them up to decorate and use also? i just love recycling and reusing things! now, if someone can please explain to me how to insert pics with blogger so the pictures come out right i will certainly appreciate it! i would love to be able to write a paragraph, insert a pic, write another and insert another, etc! seems all my posts always just turn out so sloppy as i haven't figured out how to do the pics properly!!lol hugs to all who visit comfrey cottages!!

hey!
in our town we have one or two community-wide yard sales each year - great source for cheap useful things. Plus our education foundation sponsors a community-wide auction - - that brings in things from out of town and there are lots of bargains.

there is a term for appreciating the value and beauty of well-worn objects - - wabi sabi. I am definitely a wabi sabi decorator.

as for the blog - - I use microsoft's Windows Live Writer (it's free off the web) to write my posts and insert links and pictures. You just press publish and it posts to your blog - -I like it very much.

Great finds. I love garden things that look or are old. Have more character I think. Great finds and your pocketbook didn't feel it either!

I will share my skunk story with you. When The Herbal Husband was still working, he came home and ran upstairs to make dinner. He fell asleep after dinner. Sounds familiar? He left the garage door open. He went down and close it at 11 PM. The next morning he went down to feed the birds. He entered the garage to total chaos! There was a large bag of bird seed that was open and everywhere. He also spotted the black and white body of a skunk! I called the Game Commission and she said you probably will have to wait until it wakes up later today! OMG! This animal had us paralyzed ALL DAY! It moved during the day and The Herbal Husband thought it was gone! He started cleaning up the mess. Skunk poop, bird seed, etc. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye, the skunk moved out across the garage and turned around between US and moved back under the grill! To make a long story short, the minute it started getting dark, it woke up and walked out the garage! Thank goodness it never sprayed! You gave me the perfect opportunity to give you the skunk story! Very cute! I may have to borrow it one day, Leslie!
